CATEP Helping Students

The bottom line for CATEP is that students leaving ACC and Aims for, or returning to, the workplace are better able to assimilate into the culture of their company or organization. Improved soft skills allows the student to become productive quickly and more easily, and advance through the ranks of the organization faster. One of the biggest complaints of companies worldwide is the lack of soft skills by their junior employees. Poor soft skills accounts for a significant percentage of the attrition companies experience – and attrition is costly in every respect.

The soft (“employability”) skills referred to include:

In addition to soft skills practice in the classroom, student internships within the CIS, Accounting, and Business departments at ACC will be eligible for a $300 stipend (see department advisor for details). These internships will give the student valuable on-the-job training allowing them to experience – first hand – the value of soft skills while gaining technical expertise.

Initially, these soft (“employability”) skills will be added to ACC and Aims CIS118 class – MS Office products. This class is required for all CIS students and most other disciplines. This class was chosen for its commonality and application to all subjects and disciplines. Other CTE (Career and Technical Education) classes will be included in this program in future semesters.
